to the Hillcrest Cemetery of Louisville Inc. website. Hillcrest Cemetery is located in the southwest part of Jefferson County. It was founded as the Old Methodist Church Cemetery and was designated for their families and their descendants. This was an old German Methodist church and some tombstones are written in German. In the 1870’s, this area was called the Shardine Precinct. The founding families were the Althoff, Cooper, Frieauf, Gagel, Gutermuth, Kurtz, Hargesheimer, Quillman, Schroerlucke, Stephan and Wisers.
